Belarus positively assesses work of CIS Interparliamentary Assembly

22 января 2018

The acting secretary general of this organization is temporarily residing in Minsk these days.

Today, the prospects for cooperation at the inter-parliamentary level were discussed in the Council of the Republic. The issues of major interest are harmonization of legislation and monitoring of electoral processes.

This year three big political electoral campaigns will be held in the Commonwealth space: the election of the Presidents of Russia and Azerbaijan and the parliamentary elections in Moldova. Belarusian deputies plan to take part in the elections as observers.

The CIS Interparliamentary Assembly plans to master new formats of work. In October, the President of Belarus criticized the activities of the structure and suggested that the assembly assume control over the implementation of joint programs. Sergei Antufiev notes that the criticism was fair and constructive.

The dialogue continued in the House of Representatives of the National Assembly at a meeting with Vladimir Andreichenko. The parties discussed issues of improving the activities of the states participating in the IPA CIS. The program of the visit includes a meeting with CEC Chairman Lydia Yermoshina and Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei.
