This was stated by Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei in an interview with the Financial Times.
The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed that "During the global financial and economic crisis, we realized that for middle-sized countries such as Belarus it is extremely important to have relations with many states. We do not want to depend on anyone, whether it's Washington, Brussels or Moscow: we just want to pursue our own independent policy, we would like to diversify our trade and economic relations, and the EU plays a significant role in these plans," Vladimir Makei said.
The appeal was made during the period of active establishment of relations between Minsk and the EU. President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko was invited to attend the Eastern Partnership summit of the European Union in Brussels in November.
