Belarus may suspend cooperation with EU to combat illegal migration

Belarus is considering the possibility of suspending cooperation with the European Union on the fight against illegal migration and organized crime. This was stated by Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei, speaking in the Oval Hall of the Government House.

According to the minister, restrictions may also apply to political funds, humanitarian programs, non-governmental organizations operating in Belarus.

“Moreover, the well-known prankers very clearly showed the mechanism of financing the subversive forces of Belarus and Russia. Against the background of sanctions pressure, further participation of our country in the Eastern Partnership may lose all meaning. Without Belarus, this initiative makes no sense,” said the head of the foreign policy.

Vladimir Makei is sure:

Further escalation of the situation will not lead to anything good. Everyone will lose. This scenario has negative consequences.

Belarus, as a responsible partner, will nevertheless continue to look for ways of constructive interaction. "If European politicians do not have responsibility for the fate of their citizens and the long-term interests of states, then we will rely on the interests of our peoples, who have always wanted to live in peace and tranquility," he said.

“I would like to urge our European partners to change their minds and stop attacks on the sovereignty of the neighboring country. Not only an informational, but also an economic, hybrid war has been unleashed against Belarus,” the Minister summed up.
