Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is scheduled to pay his first official visit to Belarus today. The Presidents of Belarus and Turkey are planned to hold narrow and extended format negotiations in the Palace of Independence. The two leaders will discuss the development of interstate relations with an emphasis on intensifying trade and economic cooperation and exchange views on regional and international agenda. The talks are expected to result in the signing of several bilateral documents.

Turkey is in the top ten most important trade partners of Belarus. Recep Tayyip Erdogan will be accompanied by about 200 business representatives, who will be able to discuss new projects at a business forum featuring heads of Belarusian companies and concerns.

Kezban Nilvana Darana, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkey to Belarus: “Turkish construction companies have been actively operating in Belarus for many years. Such issues as increasing the volume of investments in Belarus’ economy and promoting joint goods in the markets of third countries are currently being considered. Turkey is currently especially interested in Belarus’ chemical, mechanical engineering and textile industries. A significant advantage is that the two economies are complementary.”

In addition to the formal negotiations and the business forum, the agenda of the Turkish President’s official visit to Belarus will include attending the opening ceremony of a mosque in Minsk and laying a wreath at the monument in Victory Square. Recep Tayyip Erdogan is also planted to plant a tree in the Alley of Honorary Guests at the Palace of Independence.
