Andrea Rigoni: Belarus and Council of Europe have significant progress in relations

The fact that Minsk is open for dialogue with the Council of Europe was discussed at meeting of Andrea Rigoni with the Speaker of the House of Representatives of Belarus. Our country is interested in developing cooperation for studying the experience and convergence of legislation with Eurostandards. Andrea Rigoni noted the significant progress in relations between Minsk and the Council of Europe over the past two years. On behalf of PACE he thanked the Belarusian party for what was done to develop this cooperation. Belarus adopted the national human rights plan, invited the mission to observe the presidential and parliamentary elections.

Vladimir Andreichenko, Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus: "Our country gradually joins the international treaties of the Council of Europe, takes full participation in their implementation. We, of course, are interested in multilateral cooperation with the Council of Europe and not only in the field of democracy, human rights, but also in such issues as economics, investment, issues of combating corruption, human trafficking."

Andrea Rigoni, rapporteur on Belarus of the PACE Political Affairs and Democracy Commission: "Belarus and the Council of Europe have made significant progress in relations, we build relations based on trust, as it should be."

Today, Andrea Rigoni was also present at a meeting of the working group on the death penalty. Representatives of diplomatic missions and international organizations took part in the discussion. This issue is actively discussed in society.

Today the Chairman of the Council of the Republic has also met with the PACE representative. The parties spoke about cooperation and interaction of local self-government bodies.
