A. Lukashenko: visit of Prime Minister of India to Belarus provides incentives for development of our relation

The visit of the Prime Minister of India to our country would encourage the development of relations between Belarus and India. This was stated by President Alexander Lukashenko at the meeting with Ambassador Sangeeta Bahadur, who is completing her diplomatic mission in Belarus.

She worked in various positions in Spain, Bulgaria, Mexico, Great Britain. Sangeeta has been an Ambassador to our country since March 2018.

India is a powerful global player. It's part of several large international organizations and a reliable and promising economic partner. Last year, trade between the countries exceeded half a billion dollars. Growth is significant in comparison with the pre-pandemic year, and in the current conditions.

The basis of our export is potash fertilizers, trucks and special-purpose products. Belarusian Potash Company signed another contract for the supply of fertilizers to India, now we are selling at a higher price - $ 280 per ton. And BelAZ has an order for the supply of 96 mining dump trucks with a carrying capacity of 220 tons.

Coronavirus pandemic has affected the Indian economy. Last year, its GDP fell to $ 2.5 trillion, which made it the 7th largest country. Many contacts and projects were postponed due to the epidemic situation. The parties contribute to intensifying dialogue at the highest level to remedy the economy.

Within the framework of investment cooperation, 3 projects in pharmaceutical industry are being implemented in Belarus with the participation of India. This is the production of drugs for the treatment of cancer, tuberculosis, anticancer drugs. Possibilities of supplies of Belarusian special machinery and equipment are being considered.

There is interest in expanding cooperation in agriculture, mechanical engineering, energy and education. New trade opportunities provide for the creation of a free trade zone between India and the Eurasian Economic Union.
