Problems in Afghanistan should be solved by the people themselves, but the country should be helped. This was stated by President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko at today's meeting of the Council of the Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Dushanbe.
The head of the state noted that different points of view and positions on Afghanistan have been voiced more and more lately.
"Summing up everything that has been said, my experience as the President allows me to draw one conclusion: all the problems that exist today in Afghanistan must be solved by the Afghan people. Only the Afghan people can solve all the problems that have been and are being created in this territory," Alexander Lukashenko is convinced.
However, he pointed out that the neighboring countries are also interested in having a stable partner next door, which means they need to help Afghanistan in solving the existing problems.
"The history teaches us: the two largest, most powerful states (the Soviet Union and America) have been trying, partly by force, to solve the problems in Afghanistan for 30 years. And what happened? You know this from recent events. The Afghan state and people should be treated as equals. Afghanistan should be helped. Only in this way one can painlessly resolve the problems," stressed the Belarusian leader.
Alexander Lukashenko, President of the Republic of Belarus:
We should not impose our values on them; they will choose their future themselves. The modern history of development of Central and South Asia teaches us this. I stress once again: the Afghans will choose their future themselves. And we must help them.
