"The CSTO needs a common position on Afghanistan." This was stated by the President of Belarus at the summit of the heads of states of the organization. The event was held via videoconference. The leaders of the organization focused on the situation in Afghanistan and its impact on the security of the CSTO member states. The session was chaired by the President of Tajikistan. In addition to the leaders of the CSTO countries, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev also attended the summit. In his speech, Alexander Lukashenko pointed out the problem of migrants and refugees from Afghanistan and told about the incident with the Afghans on the border with Poland, where more than 50 Afghans have been living in inhuman conditions for several days in a neutral territory.

А. Lukashenko assured: despite the fact that Belarus is not geographically adjacent and does not border Afghanistan, the country will follow the agreed common position within the CSTO. This position should be worked out now.

CSTO reacts to situation in Afghanistan

Belarus is watching developments in Afghanistan with anxiety and attention. According to the Belarusian leader, one should assess the situation without emotions, adopt a realistic and relevant approach. Alexander Lukashenko also does not exclude the deployment of the American army in the neighboring countries. This topic deserves a careful study from the security point of view. The CSTO is closely monitoring developments on the Tajik-Afghan border. The main goal of the organization now is to ensure the security of CSTO member states. A priority in the organization's activity is still given to political and diplomatic means. At the same time, preparations have already begun for the exercises of the CSTO Collective Forces that will be held in the next few months near the Tajik-Afghan border.
