The President of Belarus is taking part in an extraordinary session of the CSTO Collective Security Council dedicated to Afghanistan. The event is held via videoconference.
The leaders of the organization's countries focus on the situation in Afghanistan and its impact on the security of the CSTO member states. The session is chaired by the President of Tajikistan. State Secretary of the Security Council Alexander Volfovich, Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei and Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, First Deputy Defense Minister Viktor Gulevich also take part in the video summit from Belarus. The event is being held at the initiative of Russia. In addition to the leaders of the CSTO countries, the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev also takes part in the summit.
In his speech, the President of Belarus outlined the problem of migrants and refugees from Afghanistan and spoke about the incident with Afghans on the border with Poland. Also, Alexander Lukashenko said about the need to work out a common position on Afghanistan.
The CSTO is closely monitoring the development of events on the Tajik-Afghan border. The main goal of the organization now remains to ensure the security of the CSTO member states. At the same time, the priority in the activities of the organization is still given to political and diplomatic means. At the same time, preparations have already begun for the exercises of the Collective Forces of the CSTO, which in the coming months will be held near the Tajik-Afghan border.
