А. Lukashenko and M. Pompeo: Global agenda, situation in Belarus and the United States, dialogue between countries

At the initiative of the American party, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko had a telephone conversation with U.S. Secretary of State Michael Pompeo. The conversation lasted about half an hour.

The parties discussed the situation in the world. According to both sides, since February visit of Michael Pompeo to Minsk, the situation has changed dramatically, new challenges have emerged and are emerging. Lukashenko and Pompeo also discussed the domestic political situation in Belarus and the USA. The State Secretary emphasized that he remains committed to the sovereignty and independence of our country and a supporter of cooperation with Belarus.

Alexander Lukashenko informed the Secretary of State about the national dialogue, which is currently active in Belarus. Referring to the foreign policy agenda, the Head of State stressed that Russia is our main ally, emphasizing its support provided at the moment. However, it was noted that Russia does not interfere in the internal affairs of Belarus. At the same time, the countries are ready to jointly respond to emerging external threats. In particular, according to the CSTO agreement on the protection of the common space in case of external aggression by Poland, Lithuania or other countries, Belarus and Russia will have to respond. At the same time, Michael Pompeo noted that neither NATO, nor Poland and Lithuania can pose such a threat because it does not exist.

On the whole, the Belarusian leader emphasized that we are in favor of a peaceful and calm resolution of all conflicts, including those on the external border. 

Besides, as Alexander Lukashenko noted, Belarus is closely watching the ongoing political campaign in the USA and wished success to Donald Trump.
