Today is the day of big politics in Dushanbe. The capital of Tajikistan is hosting the summits of the Shanghai Organization and the CSTO. The Belarusian leader takes part in these events.
Alexander Lukashenko arrived in the Central Asian region the day before. The first item on the agenda was a meeting with the President of Tajikistan. They discussed development of bilateral cooperation, military and political situation and the key subjects of the forthcoming summits. Emomali Rahmon received his Belarusian counterpart in his famous office in the Palace of the Nation. The President of Belarus was the first to visit the rooms where the summit will start.
The President of Belarus had another meeting with the leadership of Tajikistan as soon as he arrived in Dushanbe: At the airport Alexander Lukashenko talked to the Prime Minister of Tajikistan.
The international and regional security problems and their influence on the security of CSTO countries will be discussed at the summit. The situation in Afghanistan will be one of the most important issues. On the eve of the summit, the secretaries of security councils and foreign ministers have prepared their views on the problem.
The leaders are expected to adopt a declaration of the Collective Security Council and sign a number of documents on peacekeeping and military equipment. The Shanghai Cooperation Organization marked its 20th anniversary this year, and the summit in Dushanbe is anniversary year. Belarus received a status of observer in Shanghai Cooperation Organization in 2015.
