Summit of Belarus-Russia leaders to be held in Moscow on September 9

8 сентября 2021

On September 9, a summit of the leaders of Belarus and Russia will be held in Moscow. There will be a lot of attention to the negotiations from the media. The Union programs are on the agenda.

The fact that the meeting of the leaders would take place on September 9 became known about a week ago. So, during this time the Belarusian-Russian agenda hasn't lost its positions in the information space.

Our President set the tone for the discussion, just as he did for integration in general. The rapprochement with Russia was his initiative. This idea was supported by the people at a referendum.

Today, the efforts of Minsk and Moscow are aimed precisely at the economic interaction. We are coming to a single industrial policy, working on the traceability of goods, unifying the tax legislation, discussing free access to the markets and state procurement, agreeing on oil and gas and a unified energy market. That is, they make compromises for the sake of mutual benefit.

Igor Petrishenko, Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus:

When industrial complexes are united, when we have freedom of movement of goods, we ensure food security within the Union State and it is very important for us. In other words, we are creating this environment within our own country, so that our people could travel comfortably, so that the potential of our economies grew, and so that the well-being of our citizens increased. But all those aspects that we have are a reflection of the practical implementation of the provisions that were signed back in 1999. But now they will be adapted, taking into account the information confrontation with the West, in order to unite our potentials in terms of confronting those negative elements that have been going on with regard to Russia since 2014.

Leaders of Belarus and Russia will discuss international and security issues

In addition to the economy, security is always on the top of the Presidents' agenda. Not only in connection with the situation in Afghanistan, which is discussed by the whole world and not only in the CSTO. The activity of NATO does not weaken, but on the contrary, it is increasing. This forces the allies to keep their eyes and ears open. The Belarusians and Russians will be able to demonstrate their military skills and traceability of actions on Friday, when maneuvers West 2021 will start.

Tomorrow there will be a meeting between the presidents of Belarus and Russia in the Kremlin. In spite of all the difficulties of the coronavirus restrictions, the negotiations will be held in a face-to-face format. Journalists expect to ask the presidents questions based on the results of the talks, not just the protocol.
