Zhores Alferov, one of the most eminent science world representatives, has pointed out the significant role of Belarusian scientists in the country’s development. The winner of the Nobel Prize in Physics congratulated his Belarusian colleagues on Science Day, emphasising that, despite the absence of oil and gas deposits in Belarus, the country is home to hard-working people, and the Belarusian scientists do everything possible to preserve and develop the national economy.

A special place in the development of science belongs to research conducted by Belarusian polar explorers at the South Pole, where the flags of Belarus and the Academy of Sciences have been planted to mark Science Day. The explorers went on air for the first time, using a short wave frequency. This connection is used in case of setting up a new national facility in the Antarctic. The expedition members wished their colleagues good health and breakthrough discoveries.

The Year of Science started at the South Pole with the implementation of a significant national project for developing Belarusian research station infrastructure.
