The Investigative Committee of Belarus reported to the state agencies on the improper work of their own sources in the field of information security. The investigation was triggered by a criminal case against a 27-year-old Minsk resident. The professional programmer hacked the online resources of a number of ministries and committees of the country, including the state media. It was possible due to the low security policy and outright negligence of the administrators.
Despite the fact that the hacker attack resulted in no material damage, a criminal case was initiated against the law-breaker. The investigation has been completed. The man faces 3 years in prison. This criminal case was the reason for reviewing the approaches within the government agencies. The seminar, which brought together representatives of the Investigative Committee, the General Prosecutor’s Office and other law enforcement agencies, discussed the tactics in countering such crimes.
