The European countries once again prove their adherence to the ideals of freedom of speech and access to information. France terminated prematurely the broadcasting of three Russian TV channels, bypassing all bureaucratic procedures. Latvia has also withdrawn all Russian-language television channels from broadcasting. Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova commented on the situation.
Maria Zakharova, spokesperson of Russian Foreign Ministry:
“The Latvian authorities are inventing ever more sophisticated ways to free their information space from anything related to Russia, the Russian language, and any alternative point of view. This time, the local media regulator announced that, starting June 9, it will ban the broadcasting of any TV channels registered in Russia. These are a total of 80 broadcasters. The implementation of this measure will deprive approximately 40% of the Russian population of access to almost all television sources in Russian. What can this be considered, if not information genocide, the media genocide?”
