After the outbreak of hostilities in Ukraine, a record number of refugees moved to Poland. At the moment their number is three million.
This opinion was expressed by Polish political analyst Tomasz Jankowski to our TV channel. According to him, the situation has long caused discontent in the Polish society and can lead to a humanitarian crisis in the country, which simply does not have enough money to support the Ukrainian migrants.
Tomasz Jankowski, political scientist (Poland):
3 million and another 2 million earlier (in the last 8 years). That's you know we have 5 million people from Ukraine now. It is, of course, a humanitarian catastrophe. Because we don't have resources to help them all, to give them a house, a job, etc. Poland is not a rich country, we also have a lot of debts, we also have problems with inflation. There are a lot of problems in our economy after the pandemic. There is no equality between Ukrainians and Poles in the law now. It's just that Ukrainians are allowed more. For example, if a Pole wanted health insurance, he has to work, but for Ukrainian people there is insurance right away just because they have a Ukrainian passport. And this will also be bad for the relationship of Poles to Ukrainians.
