Volkovysk is one of the oldest cities in Belarus. The area is rich in cultural heritage with scattered churches representing almost all architectural styles.
The proximity of the border with the European Union and the visa-free regime create good conditions for the development of tourism, including agro- and eco-tourism, because we have a rich history, beautiful nature and our main asset - people.
The industrial area is actively developing. 29 enterprises are located here, 8 of which are state-owned.
Mikhail Sitko, Chairman of Volkovyssky District Executive Committee:
"The region borders Poland. In such cases, they usually worry that there will be outflow of young people.
About 90% of those graduates of our school who enter Polish universities come back. Some of them become teachers in schools. On the other hand, there are a lot of worthy people who became builders, leaders. They found themselves here, in our small homeland."
There are two schools in the country where all subjects are taught in Polish. One is located in Grodno, the other is here.
There is a youth parliament under the District Council of Deputies. The young deputies are active and ask their senior colleagues serious questions that concern their peers.
60% of products are sold within the country, the rest are exported. And if 4 years ago they worked only for the Russian market, then after the market closure in 2016 the strategy was revised. Now 30% of exports go to remote countries, the lion's share is the trade with China.
The region has three explored chalk deposits. According to geologists, they contain 30 million tons of limestone. The chalk in Krasnoselsk will be enough for another 50 years. Then lonely quarries are filled with the underground waters with snow-white sandy beaches! They are not only beautiful, but also extremely dangerous. For example, the height of these mountains is 60 meters and the depth of the pit is 35. And any sloppy move could be the last one. But even such prospects do not scare extreme tourists.
These places are the headache of both enterprises and the district. This is a dangerous industrial area. And tourists, including foreign ones, are attracted here. Any one of these slopes can go off like an avalanche at any moment. And no one will stop it. By the way, the connection here is bad, and there is no Internet at all, so one will have to wait a long time help.
Krasnoselskstroymaterialy is the largest enterprise in the region. It provides almost 3,000 jobs with wages of over 1,000 rubles. Cement, chalk, lime and other construction materials are in demand in Poland, Lithuania, Kaliningrad, Latvia and Estonia.
One third of the local budget is allocated to small and medium business. The average salary is Br900, the lower limit has been set at 500 so far. At the same time, there are all conditions for the development of agriculture and processing, because the land here is of the highest importance, as well as people.
