Today, there are more than 50 wireless access points in Minsk, with the majority of them to be found in cafes, bars and restaurants. Prior to the Ice Hockey World Championship, Internet hotspots will appear in city streets, passenger stations, some shopping centers and museums. According to Sergei Turomsha, Deputy Director General for Commercial Issues of RUE Beltelecom, Wi-Fi coverage will include the Independence, Masherov and Winners' Avenues.
Wi-Fi hotspots have already appeared at Minsk and Chizhovka Arenas. For journalists accredited to the championship, Internet access in press centers and hotels will be free. Wi-Fi zones will be established in one of Minsk central parks. However, Internet access is only possible with special cards, prices for which range from 1,400 to 32,000 Br depending on time limit.
Of course, after the Ice Hockey Championship, WI-Fi networks will continue expanding. Beltelekom is planning to establish 400,000 hotspots across the country by the end of 2014.
