Belarus' principled position on settlement of conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan voiced at CSTO summit

13 сентября 2022
An extraordinary session of the CSTO Collective Security Council was held in the evening of September 13. It was convened by the initiative of Armenia. The main issues on the agenda were the aggravation of the situation in some areas of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border and assistance in resolving the situation.

Upon the instructions of the President, Alexander Volfovich, State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus, informed the members of the Collective Security Council about the views of the Republic of Belarus.

The principled position voiced today: our country has always proceeded from a point that there is no alternative to peaceful settlement of the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan exclusively by political and diplomatic means. The current situation requires a thorough study. Steps are proposed that can be taken promptly, including a visit by the CSTO Secretary General to the conflict zone to prepare a detailed report to the heads of state and the creation of a working group of staff from the CSTO Secretariat and the Joint Staff to analyze the situation and make proposals.
