The Head of the Department of the General Prosecutor's Office of Belarus told about the timeliness and importance of the recognition of Nazi crimes in Belarus during the Great Patriotic War

History and facts remember everything. Today Valery Tolkachyov, the Head of the Department of the General Prosecutor's Office of Belarus spoke about the timeliness and importance of the legal recognition of Nazi crimes in the territory of Belarus during the Great Patriotic War.

The head of the group investigating the crimes of the Nazi invaders outlined the range of problems faced by the investigation. First, the fact of genocide was not documented in time. After liberation of the territory of the BSSR in the 1944, the people faced other tasks: it was necessary  to rise from the ruins, to restore the economy. The factual basis of the genocide today is formed by documents of the Extraordinary State Commission of the USSR, but this is not enough. Our country sent 60 official requests to 18 states with the call to help. But not all want to cooperate. Why? You will see in the interview.

Valery Tolkachev, the Head of the Department of the General Prosecutor's Office of Belarus, the head of the group investigating the criminal case of genocide of the Belarusian people:
Our former allies, first of all the Americans, began to use Nazi criminals for their political purposes. They were retrained in the CIA schools. They were subsequently thrown into the territory of the Soviet Baltic countries to carry out subversive activities. And this is how these individuals, who committed crimes in the 1940s, escaped responsibility. Some of them live in the United States, Canada and Latin America.

The General Prosecutor's Office and the Investigation Committee of Belarus have information about at least 450 Nazis who managed to avoid responsibility. Among them are those who in 1944 were sent to the western front as part of the Baltic formations. After the victory of the Red Army, these people were filtered. And in an attempt to avoid the supreme penalty they settled in the countries of the Baltic countries.

Valery Tolkachev, the head of the department of the General Prosecutor's Office of Belarus, the head of the group investigating the criminal case of genocide of the Belarusian people:
When we sent a request to the Republic of Lithuania, to Latvia, we received an answer from our Baltic neighbors about the impossibility of executing our legal request because the execution of this request could affect the national security of these states. But what we understand is that it is simply the today’s political elites that are harboring war criminals and not even giving us an opportunity to question them and provide us with certain documents.

But this does not stop the progress of the case. The working group which includes more than 700 employees of the Prosecutor's Office and the Investigation Committee was created this year. Investigations are carried out all over the country, because there is not a single region in Belarus where people were not exterminated during the years of occupation.
