The interruptions in grain supply from Ukraine, which used to be the fifth-largest exporter of cereals, will leave its main buyer, the states of Africa and the Middle East, without bread. About 25 million tons of grain are stuck in Ukraine because of the port blockade. The UN is sounding the alarm: one-fifth of humanity will face poverty. The West has volunteered to help, promising to deliver goods to the starving. But there are great doubts about this: The EU is preparing a safety cushion, the analysts explain. They are going to satisfy the domestic market, and only the rest will be sent to third countries.
Vadim Borovik, political scientist:
There is a global redistribution of the world now. And it will always be painful. So, look, when you think they care about someone going to starve, they got over it long time ago. They will not starve themselves. They have control of two reserve currencies, they will buy it at triple price. And now it's spring and summer, they have time to buy the petroleum products, gas and food. And the Third World countries, which they are supposedly so worried about, will be hungry, and the number of hungry people will increase. Their task is to survive in this confrontation.
The political scientist believes that the Union State should create such conditions for them, which will affect their socio-political stability. If the European voters and American voters demand a softer sanctions policy, because it really affects their living standards, it may lead to some positive results.
