23 мая 2016

People may leave their homes under different circumstances. Today the cause of global migration is more and more often the threat to their lives. Syria, eastern Ukraine, Iraq and other countries are the places where people need help. The number of hot spots continues to grow. For the first time in its 70-year history the United Nations convenes a World Humanitarian Summit. The forum started today in Istanbul and brought together representatives of 80 countries-members of the UN.

Istanbul gathered politicians, businessmen, representatives of humanitarian organizations and civil society. Everyone should confirm that they bear responsibility and implement the agenda proposed by the Secretary General for the benefit of mankind.

Several key issues have been identified:

- Conflict prevention and suppression;

- Compliance with the rules of warfare, if it is already underway;

- No one should be forgotten (concerning forced migrants);

- Changes in the methods of work to address the needs;

- Reaction to natural disasters and the fight against climate change;

- Women's rights, gender equality;

- Investing in the protection of the interests of humanity.

The delegation of Belarus is headed by General Consul of our country in Istanbul Igor Bely.

The work will be complicated and laborious. The summit will only last two days. It should result in the adoption of a declaration.
