New approaches in fight against extremism discussed in IC of Belarus

The Investigative Committee of Belarus revised approaches to organizing the disclosure and investigation of extreme criminal cases. This is primarily due to the scale of this category of crimes along with unprecedented information pressure and opposition to investigation. This required a revision of the approaches in the work of investigators, while maintaining the quality and promptness of response to all other offenses.

Alexey Borodko, Head of the Investigative Committee of Belarus:

"More than 350 persons were brought to court last year, two thirds of whom admitted their guilt. The average age of the accused ranged from 25 to 33 years, almost half of them did not work or study anywhere. At the moment, the Investigative Committee has been prosecuting criminal cases on more than 700 crimes related to extremism. Measures are being actively taken to identify all persons who participated in the riots and other illegal acts, especially to identify their organizers and coordinators."

Taking into account the accumulated experience, the methodological base was also updated. Recommendations are given on the prompt identification and prosecuti
