Alexander Lukashenko takes part in patriotic procession along Independence Avenue

3 июля 2020
Today is the time when there's no need to recall the importance of the Independence Day. July 3 is a sacred date for every Belarusian. And now it's our duty not to forget the lessons of the past. We remember what our grandfathers fought for. Their lives have become a great price to pay for a free country, which we must preserve.

Every Belarusian family has someone who fought for our common victory and independence. Belarus remembers everyone.

Today the common memory has united thousands of people in a patriotic procession along Independence Avenue. Our President Alexander Lukashenko joined them marching hand in hand with veterans, those who raised Belarus from the ruins, and young people, who have to build the future.

Our people have paid a huge price for the right to live freely on their land. More than 1 million 200 thousand Belarusians fought in the ranks of the Soviet Union let alone hundreds of thousands of partisans and underground fighters.

Our path to independence has not been quick or easy. After the war our grandfathers and great grandfathers restored the country literally from the ashes. In a tiny period by historical standards, a quarter of a century, we have created a sovereign state. We have declared to the world our ambitions, our multi-vector policy, and we have always been side by side with our neighbors.

The value of peace is more acute than ever in our time. When various conflicts flare up here and there all over the planet, it is important to remember about the calmness and independence that the Belarusians have won at a too high price.

Of course, for our veterans the most important thing is to know that they are remembered. N opportunity to communicate with the President on this day is a long tradition. Numerous residents of the capital and guests who came to the celebration also did not miss an opportunity to talk to the Head of State.

Not every nation has such a great victory in its history. July 3 is our main celebration of freedom and independence.
