By Dmitry Titov: This weekend the High-Tech Park hosted a NASA Hackathon. The event takes place in 160 countries around the world. Its participants are to present innovative ideas for the space industry within 48 hours.
The main theme of this year’s NASA Hackathon was planet Earth with five topics of choice offered to the participants. For example, they were tasked with finding ways to improve the environment, watch the planet from space or reach the outermost expanses of the universe without leaving an office. The space enthusiasts created an alternative to Wikipedia and the first social network for scientists, astronauts and space amateurs and suggested sharing radiation background information using a mobile application.
The Hackathon winner is the Geogene team. The developers suggested tracking any species of animal, plant and even microorganism on the planet. In the future, the service will be able to provide information about other planets.
The 48-hour event resulted in 10 space projects created by representatives of 20 different occupations, from programmers and designers to astronomers and biologists.
