27 апреля 2017

The United Nations Headquarters in New York hosted the opening ceremony of the photo exhibition dedicated to the first International Chernobyl Disaster Remembrance Day. The pictures exhibited were taken not only by professional photographers, but also by direct participants in those events.

Permanent Representative of Belarus to the UN Andrei Dapkiunas:

"For many years, dozens of countries and thousands of enthusiasts have helped the people, in particular, children, in Belarus and other countries affected by the Chernobyl disaster. This work was gratefully accepted and highly commended all over the world. Here, in New York, I would like to note the contribution to the cause made by two non-governmental organizations from the United States and Ireland, who made it their main goal to help the children of Chernobyl."

The event was jointly organized by the Permanent Mission of Belarus to the United Nations, the United Nations Development Programme Office in Belarus, and non-governmental organizations. The purpose of the exhibition is to pay tribute to the help, sympathy, unselfishness, and humanity that the people of Belarus have shown at this difficult time.
