A joint commemorative event was held in Minsk in honor of American Ruth Waller who died in Minskin 1946. A 24-year-old Ruth came to the war-ravaged and famined Belarus as an employee of the Belarus Mission of the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration, which provided humanitarian, technical, medical and relocation assistance in the affected countries in the years following the war. Ruth Waller succumbed to a terminal disease in 1946 after she pulled 3 drowning Belarusian kids out of water. As a result of cooperative efforts between Belarus, U.S. and the United Nations Office, a memorial plaque honoring her was installed and in Minsk School 130 was named after Ruth Waller.
