Belarusians continue to receive gifts for Independence Day and the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from Nazi invaders. On July, 2 a new memorial complex Avenue of Heroes opened in Gomel. It consists of 41 monuments to the heroes of the Soviet Union, who participated in the liberation of Gomel. Concrete columns connected with an arch became part of the memorial to the soldiers who were killed during the liberation of Gomel. Now Student Square, where the Avenue of Heroes is situated, will be a real open-air museum.
Center of the avenue is a place of fraternal burial place of soldiers and partisans, participants in the defense of Gomel in 1941 and its liberation in 1943. 129 soldiers were buried there.
The new memorial will work for the patriotic education of youth and attract the attention of tourists.
