NATO exercise begins in Estonia

17 мая 2021

Large-scale military exercise "Spring Storm" has begun in Estonia. It will last until June 5. 7,000 soldiers from Estonia, the USA, Great Britain, Latvia, Poland, Italy, France and Denmark will take part in it.

Previously, the North Atlantic alliance engaged Eastern Europeans in military activities with a view to its declared partnership with Russia. However, in the last decade, any decorum has been forgotten: the alliance officially declared its ambition of "politico-military restraint of Russia"! The countries of the former USSR are actively involved in the exercises. The three Baltic States, as well as Ukraine and Georgia take part in about a dozen maneuvers every year. All of them are conducted near the borders of the Union State and take place both on land and at sea.

In the last two years, NATO's military and strategic activity near our borders has taken on a particular dimension. Last year, the Defender Europe 2020 exercise was supposed to involve 37,000 military service members. Because of COVID, some of the planned activities were cancelled. However, the exercise did took place in Poland and the Baltic States.

The Defender Europe 2021 exercise will bring together 28,000 soldiers and officers from 27 countries. No less than 30 firing ranges will be involved. Among other things, redeployment of the units and military equipment from Africa and the United States to the Old World is planned.

NATO's activity is directed against the Union State. In this sense, the current exercise in Estonia is only a small part of NATO's growing military-strategic activity near the borders of the Union State in general and Belarus in particular.
