Belarus marks 72 years since beginning of Great Patriotic War

At 4 a.m. on June 22, 1941, Nazi Germany invaded the Soviet Union breaking the Nonaggression pact. It suffered a crushing defeat, but it cost Belarus a life of every third Belarusian.
First commemorative events have been held today.

By Viktoria Potonya: The remains of fallen soldiers are found until now. In May, the remains of two soldiers were discovered in Kobrin. Today, the fallen defenders of the Citadel have been reburied with full honors in the territory of Brest Fortress. Every June veterans from the post-Soviet countries come to Brest to pay tribute to the war victims.
