Medieval bread to be baked in Belovezhskaya Pushcha

The life of our distant ancestors will be recreated in the reserve. A new archaeological open-air museum is being built there.

In addition to the bakery, a forge, dwellings and even kitchen gardens will appear. The inhabitants of the ancient settlement will be played by actors. The complex is built from such materials as clay, moss, logs and reed, according to the ancient technologies.

Sergey Kruk, engineer of the construction organization: "The roof on this building is made of reed, coated with clay for better waterproofing. Clay was a universal material that could be obtained almost everywhere."

The interior is also authentic. The metal nails were replaced by less expensive wooden. And large beams were fastened together with strong pine roots. Builders work in conjunction with scientists there.

Ruslan Kniga told the reporters that the interior ornaments were applied according to the archaeological data and ceramics of our ancestors.

A similar complex is a hundred meters away. This is the first open-air archaeological museum in Belarus. The object was opened last year and it reflects the culture and life of another period: the Bronze Age.

According to the employees of the national park, the new project will be more interactive.

Another 16 buildings will appear in the museum in the near future. Exhibits from the excavations will be displayed in some of them.

Ruslan Kniga, head of the archaeological open-air museum: "We will display two archaeological cultures from the early Slavs: Prague-Korczak culture and Luko-Raikovec culture. All of them were common to Belarusian territory."

The museum will open in May. Work in the medieval household will be offered to tourists.
