Belarus launches information campaign on safe migration

15 октября 2015

Belarus launched an information campaign on safe migration and prevention of human trafficking. The EU allocated more than half a million Euros for this project. Belarus is a transit territory for migrants. Often these people plan to get into the European Union, so the main task of our country is informational work and assistance in combating sexual slavery and human trafficking.

Andrea Victorin, head of the EU Delegation in Belarus: "We all know that people are being sold. For sexual and labor exploitation, as well as for sale of organs. Women and children become the objects of such offenses most often. 56% of all victims are women and children, 98% of them are commercially and sexually exploited. It causes us particular concerns. Children are sold as well, they are forced to beg and commit petty theft. This is our common problem."

A hotline for safe travel abroad has been working in Belarus for 12 years. 30 thousand people have already dialed the number 113.
