Centres for support of technology and innovation will appear throughout the country and will help to quickly obtain information about all new inventions, as well as to offer Belarusian patents abroad.
Yesterday, Belarusian experts discussed met with the Deputy Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization – John Sandage. Belarus has complied with the requirements of the organization for two decades now.
Alexander Shumilin, the Chairman of the State Committee for Science and Technology of Belarus:
"We want to expand this network throughout all of Belarus. Today, we will discuss the prospects of setting up a coordination centre for such a structure on the basis of the National Center for Intellectual Property. After all, today, to get a patent, the search takes 2 years on average. Together with the World Intellectual Property Organization, we are creating a unified system of Belarus that will allow us to manage intellectual property, primarily in industry. And this will greatly speed up these processes."
Also, starting this year, the rates of patent fees in Belarus have been set in Belarusian rubles. This reduced the rates on average by 30%. Scientists and scientific organizations will now pay only a quarter of the cost of duties.
