Belarus has developed a test system for diagnosing monkeypox. This was reported today by Vladimir Gorbunov, director of the National Epidemiology and Microbiology Center. This is a standard PCR-technology, which includes several steps. The diagnosis will be made in the center. According to WHO criteria, monkeypox belongs to the third biorisk group. The Belarusian criteria are more demanding. The results of diagnosis will be known within a few hours after the biomaterial is received.
The Ministry of Health assures us that this test system will not be widely used in Belarus. The disease is not widespread and it is not expected that the infection will appear in Belarus in the near future.
