Long-felt need to amend domestic violence prevention laws announced in Belarus

7 сентября 2021

The coronavirus pandemic has exposed another problem of modern society. Cases of domestic violence are on the rise all over the world. Belarus was not so affected by it. We didn't close our enterprises and this means that people lived in a habitual way. Nevertheless, there is a need to introduce changes in the documents regulating the prevention of domestic violence. The relevant bill was passed in the lower house of parliament in the first reading. A round table on preparation for the second reading featuring deputies, representatives of law enforcement, health care, education, labor and social protection was held on September 7. The changes will be aimed not at punishment, but at prevention. Similar laws on combating domestic violence are now in force in more than 120 countries worldwide.
