President of Belarus: The Great Victory is an integral part of the Belarusian national idea

9 мая 2022
Tens of thousands of Belarusians under one flag and united by a common idea marched along Independence Avenue today. Peaceful and free, Minsk meets in all its glory the holy date for all Belarusians: the Great Victory Day.

Belarusians are holding portraits of veterans of the Great Patriotic War. And for many it is a personal story. A family story. The general leitmotif of messages on banners is  "Fascism will not pass!", "We remember the lessons of war!"

Representatives of different generations joined the march.  The children and young people are at the head of the column. These are the young patriots of Fatherland.

Our peaceful independent country has managed to multiply and considerably develop the potential, which we inherited from the Soviet Union.

Igor Lutsky, Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of Belarus:

“You see how easy it is to break our historical memory, but we won't let them. And today is the march of the generations. Many of my friends and acquaintances are walking with their children with portraits today. This is a great date for us today. This is the key date.”

The Belarusian leader is with the people every year on this holiday. "The Procession of Generations" gave a start to  the celebrations of the Great Victory all over Belarus.

The youngest participants of the procession met Alexander Lukashenko in Victory Square, symbolizing the very bond of generations that allows us to pass on our most important traditions, to honor the moral and spiritual values.

Flowers were laid at the foot of the monument by representatives of the state administration, parliament, courts, as well as veterans' organizations and the force departments of the country. In honor of the soldiers-liberators, who defended the world for us, there are flowers from Minsk regional executive committee and the capital authorities, clergy, diplomatic corps and representatives of the CIS Executive Committee.

President of Belarus: the Great Victory has become an integral part of the Belarusian national idea

The Great Patriotic War is our common pain.  This is our common victory over the brown plague. Public associations and political parties, as well as activists and patriots of Belarus, joined the laying of flowers. Alexander Lukashenko has congratulated the Belarusians on the Great Victory Day. The victory, which has preserved the Belarusian people and predetermined the way of development of all generations of the Belarusians, has become an integral part of the national idea.

The President stressed that Belarus remembers all those who held back the enemy to the last cartridge on the border, near Minsk and Mogilev, who were tortured in the Gestapo cells, who burned in Khatyn, Dalva and Trostenets.

"Blood, grief and death were brought to the world by Hitler's executioners. They wanted to wipe us, Belarusians, Russians and Ukrainians off the face of the earth. And, in their opinion, the Jews, Gypsies, Tatars and other "subhumans" went along with us. Millions of lives were laid on the altar of Victory by our great common motherland - the Soviet Union. And the 80 years that have passed have not stifled this pain. Honor and glory to the winners," said the head of state.

A moment of silence was held in memory of the victims at the ceremony near the Victory Monument. The President noted that the Belarusians and their brotherly peoples remember and understand the significance of the Great Victory not only in their own lives but also in the fate of the world.

"We cherish this page of history, we keep the pain of losses and pride in our glorious victors in our hearts. We simply have no right and can't forget it," said Alexander Lukashenko. -  So, addressing the modern generations, I first of all address my message to those who live in a fog of lies and deceit, who are deprived of the opportunity to study the true history of World War II and the Great Patriotic War in schools, those on whose streets the slogans of marching veterans of the SS and neo-fascists ring louder. I address this message in the name of the Belarusian people to those who have banned the Victory Day, who destroy monuments to fallen liberators and the Soviet soldiers."
