Orthodox Christians celebrating Feast of Transfiguration today

19 августа 2016

Orthodox Christians are celebrating one of the 12 great holidays in the church calendar – the Feast of the Transfiguration, popularly known as Savior of the Apple Feast Day. The holiday’s symbol is the apple. Traditionally it is assumed that it is in the middle of August that the fruit gains its full force in Eastern Slavic lands. On this day, apples and other fruits are brought to the church for consecration, which symbolises respect to Jesus Christ, the desire to share the harvest and to transform with God.
