Thomas Roeper: Most Germans will start realizing what's going on only in January

"Because of the new gas prices, German residents will face big problems.  In times of crisis, most Germans can't afford even a minimal increase in the cost of utilities." German journalist Thomas Roeper shared this opinion.

According to him, many people have no idea how they will cover the new monthly payments. And the government's programs to support residents will not save the situation with the exorbitant prices for energy resources.

Thomas Roeper, journalist (Germany):

“If you take Germany, some people have already received some price increases for heating and electricity. But mostly people will get by until the end of the year, because the system there is such that you pay a certain amount every month, the recalculation of expenses will be at the end of the year. Therefore, for example, most Germans will only fully understand what is going on, maybe in January, when, the first bill for the previous year comes and on the basis of this recalculation new monthly payments will be issued, which can be higher by 500 euros. And this recalculation may even amount to several thousand euros.  Despite all the legends of wealth in Europe, they too live from paycheck to paycheck. And where does this money come from? For many Germans, 1,000 euros is already an unaffordable sum. And what if something breaks down at home? So they do not understand what is happening yet, although they already feel something. It was announced that 65 billion in aid was the first step, but it was quite ridiculous. It was unclear where to get it from, and if you take the details, they raised the child benefit there by 18 euros, which is less than the inflation rate. They gave pensioners a 300 euro payment, but that won't even cover one month of new expenses. So obviously it's not going to do anything.
