By Ksenia Rabchinskaya: Last week, The Times, the British newspaper, included Minsk in the list of 30 great bargain city breaks. The article notes that Minsk can lure tourists with “futuristic architecture alongside Soviet-style tower blocks and murals” and numerous postwar monuments. Another advantage of Minsk is cheap prices.

The authors advise to try the food, too – in particular, solyanka and draniki.

Based on more than 18,000 opinions, the most popular booking service in the world claims that the best time to travel to Minsk is September. People note Minsk’s nature and theaters. Visitors characterize the Belarusian capital as vibrant, but not chaotic, calm and at the same time bright.

Minsk is growing – new houses are being built and new people arrive here to live. According to official statistics, 200,000 people have come to the capital since 2006.

The number of tourists will grow as well. Over the last 10 years, the number of hotels, hostels and other accommodations for tourists has grown from 27 to 69.

In 2005, Minsk could accommodate 343,000 tourists. Today, this number stands at 594,000.

As the city is growing more modern, brighter and friendlier for tourists, it is a great time to break the stereotype that the Belarusians are gloomy and never smile.
