While some countries abandon their history and destroy monuments to the Great Patriotic War, the Belarusians, in order to preserve the legacy of the people-victor, create new sculptural compositions. One of them will adorn the capital's Victory Park. The monument will be the people's one, as the authors of the project planned. The charitable foundation of Alexei Talay collected Soviet coins all over the country, which will be melted into the base of the sculpture. More than a thousand three hundred families gave their iron money. The future composition today was replenished with coins from our President, his children and grandchildren.
Alexei Talay, public figure, Paralympian, founder of the charitable foundation:
“Thousands of Belarusian families were united by this project. A national monument in the glory of our grandfathers and great-grandfathers, what can be more important? And today, on this significant date, when all Europe was united and Nazi Germany went to war against us, we will cast these coins as a memorial. This is the living memory of grateful generations. And we are just happy that today the coins from the children, from the grandchildren of the head of state will also get into this alloy.”
The sculpture will be opened in the capital by July 3. The composition will not be the only one. Similar monuments will also appear in Brest and Moscow.
