Belarusian medicine is ready to adequately respond to new challenges. Improving the health care system was the topic of the meeting with the President.
A medical pool, the head of the Ministry of Health, and speakers of both chambers of parliament gathered in the Palace of Independence. The agenda includes discussion of amendments to the laws "On health care" and "On the providing psychological assistance". The basic documents defining the legal basis for the providing of medical care have not been comprehensively revised for about 10 years. During this time, the medical system in Belarus and the world has changed significantly, and the coronavirus pandemic has also introduced new challenges. The President noted that the national health care system withstands this test with dignity.
The President was presented with a new law on health care. One of the main innovations concerns the improvement of the medical care quality management system. Outpatient clinics will offer the possibility of day hospital treatment at the expense of the budget. An examination of the quality of medical care is being introduced. It will be possible to prescribe patients with controlled treatment. The definition of a university clinic is now legal. Several changes have also been made to the vocational training system. Alexander Lukashenko approved the new approaches.
The healthcare system functions and is funded uninterruptedly even in the difficult conditions of a pandemic. The head of the Ministry of Health reported to the President on the current situation, shared forecasts, and showed the statistics of the incidence of ARVI and pneumonia.
Dmitry Pinevich, Minister of Health of Belarus: "We are not totally, but we have begun to convert the bed fund in the opposite direction. A second maternity hospital has opened in Minsk. We stopped hospitalizing patients with coronavirus in a gynecological hospital. The Republican Hospital for Medical Rehabilitation in Aksakovshchina is also returning to its usual mode of operation. It was used to treat covid pneumonia. Now they have already returned to the rehabilitation of patients after strokes and operations. on large joints, heart. This is what warms me as a professional. I want to do the work that we were doing before the pandemic."
A structure for providing medical care has been created in Belarus. The healthcare system is constantly being improved. The development of medical technologies meets the highest standards: for example, there are over 22 000 cardio-surgical interventions, and more than 500 transplants were performed last year. Special attention is paid to personnel: almost 3 500 young specialists graduate annually.
