About 15 thousand crimes in Belarus are committed under the influence of alcohol. These figures are recorded by law enforcement agencies every year for the last 6 years. The day before, this was stated by the Prosecutor General in his dialogue with reporters. Andrey Shved noted that prosecutors identified shortcomings in the issue of compulsory treatment of alcoholism. In addition, there is no legal regulation on the terms within which medical institutions must provide information on the results of such treatment.

Andrei Shved, Prosecutor General of Belarus:

As for the issues of application of the Criminal Code in terms of compulsory treatment of persons suffering from chronic alcoholism who have committed crimes, systemic flaws have also been identified. They are associated primarily with the fact that there is no clear legal regulation of the exchange of information between health facilities and internal affairs bodies. There is no legal regulation related to the procedure of the forced treatment.

A a meeting of the General Prosecutor's Office board was held Thursday. The main topic of the event was the prevention of alcoholism, drug addiction and substance abuse.
