The electoral process is monitored by international observers. This year, the CIS mission, including the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly, is working in Belarus, as well as representatives of the diplomatic corps. There are 248 experts in total. According to the head of the CIS observer mission, Sergei Lebedev, he and his colleagues, call the people of Belarus for the calm elections and for the happy life in the country after them.
Sergei Lebedev, head of the CIS observer mission: "We've been monitoring since July 24. We have over 170 people from 8 countries. At the moment our observers have not recorded any facts of violation of election rules, obstacles to voting. We all have the same desire as, I think, the majority of Belarusian citizens, for the elections to be calm and organized. And most importantly, elections are a temporary phenomenon. It is more important that after them life in Belarus should be happy, prosperous, with progressive development and peace. All observers of the CIS countries are, of course, interested in maintaining fraternal relations with Belarus. As the Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee, I am interested that Belarus continued to be an active participant of interaction within the Commonwealth."
International observers will work today all day until the end of the presidential elections. The CIS mission will make its statement on the results of monitoring the election campaign tomorrow, August 10.
