Maslenitsa celebrations held in Minsk region.

By Antonina Stankevich: Maslenitsa is a real gastronomic holiday with pancakes being a major treat. It is believed that one should eat as much as one can hold in the last days before the Lent.

However, Maslenitsa is not about food alone. The folk festival is not complete without ritual songs, dances and games and burning Maslenitsa effigies, which symbolizes the end of winter and wards off troubles.
