7 decades separate this morning from that of July, 44th. 7 peaceful and constructive decades without war. Today is the Day of Liberation of Belarus from Nazi invaders and Independence Day. These holidays are a single and highly symbolic date in the calendar. 3rd of July embodies the unity and continuity of the past and present. Today we express our gratitude to those people who were able to withstand the most difficult time for our land. We thank those who raised Belarus from the ruins, and those who now raise youth, teaches them not to retreat before difficulties and sincerely love the motherland.
As a result of Operation Bagration, which became a symbol of the liberation of Belarus, on July 3, 2nd Guards Tank Corps of Burdeiniy broke into Minsk from the northeast. From the north and the south-east the third and the first units of the Belorussian Front approached the city. By the evening of July 3rd Minsk was completely liberated from the enemy. Red banner was hoisted over the city again after one thousand one hundred days and nights - this is the exact time the Germans occupied the city, which was destroyed by bombing. Minsk has been destroyed by 85%. Belarusians know the price of freedom: during the Great Patriotic War every third citizen of the country gave his life for it. The contribution of the Belarusian people in the Great Victory and independence is truly invaluable and few nations have such a victory in their history.
