A sorrowful date in the history of Belarus. 79 years ago, the Great Patriotic War began, it was one of the bloodiest wars in the history of mankind.
During 1,418 days, it has claimed the lives of over 27 million people. The first blow of the enemy on June 22, 41 was taken by the defenders of Brest Fortress. The assault began with massive aerial bombardment and artillery fire. At the time of the attack there were 7-8 thousand people in the fortress including 300 families of soldiers. Under complete siege, without water and food, with an acute shortage of ammunition and medicines, the garrison bravely fought the enemy for over a month. And now the memorial complex "Brest Hero Fortress" remains one of the main symbols of courage and fortitude. People carry flowers to the Eternal Flame to pay tribute and honor the defenders of the Motherland.
