Brightest moments of Victory Day celebrations in Belarus

9 мая 2022
The Great Victory Day was celebrated today in all parts of our country. In Belarus, there is not a single family not touched by the tragic events of the war. Thousands of people came out today to the monuments and squares to honor the memory of their heroes.

Veterans led the festive procession in Brest

27 million lives was the terrible price of the Great Patriotic War. Its first victims were the defenders of the Brest Fortress. Neither wounds nor thirst broke their spirit. Major Gavrilov, lieutenant Kizhevatov, commissar Fomin - these and other names are forever inscribed in the memory book of Belarusians:

The veterans were greeted with applause. The column entered the citadel through the famous monument "The Star," a symbol of military honor and valor. The memory of the heroes who died, but did not surrender, was honored with a moment of silence on Ceremonial Square.

Mound of Glory

The Mound of Glory in Minsk Region. In the summer of 1944 the Soviet Army encircled and defeated the German troops. That was one of the decisive moments in the offensive operation Bagration. Thousands of Belarusians came here today to commemorate the heroes.

The main heroes of the holiday are veterans. A word of gratitude for the peaceful sky and the feat they performed for the sake of new generations.

The central street of Vitebsk became pedestrian for several hours. The solemn procession united young people, labor collectives, veterans of the Armed Forces. Today the center of Vitebsk is as crowded as it was in the first peaceful May. Documentary evidences: having learnt about the surrender of the enemy on May 9, 1945, 40 thousand residents went out into the streets. And 77 years later Belarusians remember and honor the lessons of the past. Participants of the meeting laid flowers at the Eternal Flame at the foot of the monument in honor of soldiers-liberators, underground fighters and partisans. Many came with portraits of fathers, grandfathers and great grandfathers. Each Belarusian family has its own story of the war.

Thousands of citizens and guests took part in the march-parade through the main street of Mogilev. Of course, veterans were at the head of the column. Rarity cars were prepared for them. The heroes were as excited as they were 77 years ago. The joy of that Victory is still remembered today. The parade continued with a festive concert "Eternal glory to the heroes!" with the participation of the best bands. And there was also the final of the patriotic marathon "Roads of Memory and Glory."

In Grodno, thousands of townspeople walked along the central avenue with portraits of their heroes. The Mound of Glory is a symbolic place for every citizen. The complex was built in the late 60's in memory of soldiers-liberators. The earth from the mass graves from every district of Grodno Region was used for its creation.
