Exactly 75 years ago, on January 27, the Red Army soldiers liberated the largest death camp of the Third Reich. About 200 witnesses to those events arrived here today. The prisoners of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp laid wreaths and flowers at the "Wall of Death", where the prisoners were executed. The Presidents of Poland, Israel, Germany, Finland, Latvia and Lithuania, as well as the Prime Ministers of France, Spain, the Czech Republic, Greece, Bulgaria and Serbia, and representatives of official delegations from more than 50 countries, including Belarus, also paid tribute to the memory of the victims. It is conservatively estimated that almost one and a half million people were killed in Auschwitz.

The archives of Auschwitz contain information about 13 trains, which arrived from Belarus in March 1943. Most of the trains were coming from Minsk and Vitebsk. Six thousand Belarusians are known to have passed through the death gates of the Auschwitz camp. Today, the memorial events in Auschwitz have been attended by the Belarusian delegation led by Deputy Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly Anatoly Isachenko.
