Belarus is reconsidering its relations with the UN in the field of civil and political rights at the legislative level. Today the senators of the Council of the Republic voted for the withdrawal of one of the protocols at the regular session of the session. Such a decision is caused by an arbitrary and unjustified expansion of powers by the UN commission in relation to our country. As the speakers at the session stressed, this is nothing but political pressure of the overwhelming majority of Western countries, represented by the UN, on the national judicial system. Cooperation from the Belarusian side looks like a one-way game.
Sergey Rachkov, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus:
“Many countries confirm that we fulfill all our international obligations in good faith in contrast to the UN Human Rights Committee, which is trying to interpret its authority in a politicized way, which the Republic of Belarus can no longer agree with.”
However, the Belarusian side will continue to speak at international forums on the implementation and protection of human rights on the principles of equality and non-interference in internal affairs.
Also, at a regular session of the Council of the Republic, the senators ratified the agreement on import duties in the EAEC. They appproved two more bills: on security of payment of customs duties (for transportation of goods) and protocols on postal services.
Rachkov: Belarus has always complied with all its international human rights obligations
