Latvians living in Belarus protest against electoral system in their country

Latvian residents want to be heard. The natives of the Baltic State came to the Consulate of Latvia in Vitsebsk to vote for fair elections. They were forced to leave their home country and some even fled because of discrimination as Russian speakers and persecution by the special services for their political beliefs. Belarusians also supported the activists. In their hands they held posters asking the Latvian Saeima to respect the principles of democracy, not to be puppets, and not to choose at the expense of ordinary people who are feeling the difficult economic situation in the country.

For many years, Latvian activists have been advocating the initiative of a national election of the president. Today they tried to pass a letter requesting democratic elections in Latvia through the Consulate. But the diplomatic mission ignored the wishes of its citizens.
